Every now and then I look at the stats on web sites I’ve designed, and invariably I find that someone has nicked an image and used it in their signature or web page.
Weird thing is, it’s always the same image - feet on a mortuary slab which I used for a spoof album cover:

This month I discovered not one but four angst-ridden young Americans had borrowed the image - and a slice of bandwidth - for their blogs.
So I may have changed the image a teeny tiny bit.
But then as we already know, teenage American blogs are an endless source of unintentional humour.
Kissed Me Dead (I read that as ‘Kissed my Dad’ at first, possibly a better title for a blog in my view) has been having a tough time. Katie hung up on him, and she is sweet and don’t you forget it and mom’s home from hospital and life is pretty boring right now…
Yoursmokeblursthenight is female, 16 and from Quincy, Illinois. I want to go to Quincy, Illinois for no reason other than I like the name, as I used to love watching Quincy starring Jack Klugman. She’s also a smart cookie as she realised my rotten trick and changed the background image on her site within a few hours.
Zaclovesyou has a blog which is unreadable in Firefox, so he gets what he deserves.
And then there’s Love Is Blind in Kansas City - I think they’re a band in search of a name. Well they need to drop that icky CSS blur-on-hover trick that thankfully doesn’t show up in Firefox, but which nearly made me choke on my California roll when I saw it in MSIE on WindowsXP.
Anyway, in case you think I’m being a bit harsh, I do remember what it was like to be 16 and spending a summer shut away in my room with the curtains closed… I just ripped an early Cocteau Twins album and was hopping down The Strand this morning singing:
Garlands evergreen
Forget-me-not leaves
Chaplets see me drugged
I could die in the rosary
Sigh. They don’t write them like that any more…
