A
bit of an eye opener, the current 'fuel crisis'.
For here we have the leader of the Conservative Party and
the Daily Mail speaking out as one in favour of flying pickets
who act in restraint of the free movement of goods & services.
Perhaps it's just because I've been using my dwindling-to-nothing
supply of petrol to get my child to the child minder each
day. Perhaps because we are supposed to be going on holiday
next week and I live in fear of a) running out of petrol with
a 10 month old baby in the back, or b) getting stuck behind
a go-slow convoy of trucks, or c) both.
Or perhaps I'm just so angry because of the sheer stupidity
of the pro-blockade spokesmen going on the radio and TV blithely
saying "we always allowed fuel
to get through to hospitals and ambulance stations".
Who drives and maintains the ambulances, and how do they get
to work without fuel?
Who looks after patients in hospital? Who operates on them?
Cleans the hospital? Cooks? How do any of these people get
to work when there is no fuel at all?
And without them, no hospital.
