iCab
1.9 is now up for grabs at http://www.icab.de/
- and, unlike the previous version I wrote about a while ago,
this one works!
What's iCab? It's 'Das Internet-Taxi für den Mac', in other
words a small, tightly coded web-browser that won't eat your
hard drive and is also available in a pre-Power PC version.
Javascript isn't implemented yet, but it's worth having for
the hilarious rants of the author about non standard implementations
of HTML.
If you write web pages, you might get annoyed at the way it
disses your code - there is a Smiley face next to the URL
bar that frowns if the source code deviates by one tag from
HTML Standard 1.0000001 - and this means the poor little fella
is frowning alot, as he thinks <FONT> is a non standard
tag. He is a logical rather than physical being and he frowns
at every single web page I've ever written, even the pictures
of my baby. Miserable bastard.
Best of all is the preference box that gives you the choice:
- Emulate IE and Netscape
or
- Obey the standards.
You
must obey the standards!
iCab is a great idea, though, when you consider what bloated
behemoths IE and Navigator have become. Download it and lap
up the slightly non-standard implementation of the English
language! Worldwide your guide! Welcome to the beautiful town
of Royston Vasey!
